Weekend Wash Up: Making Taffy

Meet Rose. She's one of two taffy machines that you can watch in action at Shriver's in Ocean City. Why's she named Rose? Because it says Rose on the side of the machine. Clever.

Weekend Wash Up: Hurricane Surfing

I've sat out two hurricanes at the Jersey Shore. Neither one was a big deal (I think one had been downgraded to a tropical storm when it passed by), but it kicks up some monster waves, as this video shows.

I remember hitting the beach the day after Hurricane Bob came through in 1991. Shells lined the beach, and a sting ray was flopping around on the jetty. I wanted to help, but my mom didn't want me to going out onto wet rocks. Smart lady.

Weekend Wash Up: Doo Dah Parade

On April 26, Ocean City will hold its annual Doo Dah Parade, a wacky event that celebrates the end of tax season with everything from a basset hound parade to, well, Care Bares.

Why post this now? Because I'm working on my taxes today. All. Day. Long. I have an accountant, but she doesn't count all those receipts, and I think there's twice as many to count this year because of my shore research. Good thing I have a big dining room table and NPR.

Double feature this weekend because of the plethora of birthdays in my family. Today is my sister's birthday, and yesterday was my brother AND his fiance's birthday. Every year, I call my brother to sing a very specific birthday song. He told me that he wasn't going to answer his phone if I called yesterday because he did not want to hear the song. So I slipped him this Youtube clip and got him anyway:
