Exciting news! I'm a contestant on this Saturday's edition of NPR's Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me!
If you've never head the show, Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me is a popular and silly NPR quiz show that pokes fun at the week's news. Some of the quiz questions are asked to a panel of rotating guests. The others are asked to call-in contestants. I play the limerick challenge.
I listen to podcasts of the show every Sunday on my long runs, so this was a big geek thrill.
We recorded the segment late Thursday night. Of course we talk about the Jersey Shore. They asked me what I do for a living. What else was I supposed to say?
It's a nation wide show, though air times are different according to where you live. Locally:
Philadelphia: WHYY on 90.9 FM at 4pm
Jersey Shore: NJN on 90.3 FM or 89.9 FM at noon
New York: WNYC on 93.9 FM or 820 AM at 11am
Baltimore: WYPR on 88.1 FM at 11am
Washington, DC: WAMU on 88.5 FM at 11am
If you're outside these areas, go to NPR's website and find your station's schedule (Marples, I'm not sure where in Mass. you are, but if you're near Boston, you can tune into WBUR 90.0 FM at 10am).
I'll post a link to the MP3 when it's available, too.
How'd I get on the show? I sent them an email. They can't chose you don't raise your hand...

Love that show. We will be listening! - John
Wow, congratulations! Very cool. What a great show. I'm itching to know whether you won Carl Kasell's voice on your home answering machine, but I know you can't spill 'til after broadcast.
Yes, Janet, I'm keeping mum until the show airs!
Great news Jenn! "Wait, wait..." along with "Click 'n Clack the Tappet Brothers" and Lake Woebegone's favorite son are the best entertainment.
Larry, I can't for the life of me get into Click 'n Clack. And I'm in a fight with Minnesota for now :-)
I'm also a big fan of Marketplace Money's weekend show. They invited me to pitch them ideas...one NPR show at a time!
Also, you can subscribe to "Wait Wait" via iTunes and download the podcast that way. That's how I get my weekly fix. Previously, I always had to time my car trips to hear the show!

Leah - Very true! That's how I listen - I subscribe via itunes, and put it on my iPod Nano (along with Marketplace Money) and run my little legs off.
That's great! I love that show. I'll listen for you when I listen to this week's podcast. Very cool.
Way to go! Three for three. The ensemble of Jersey Shore couldn't perform as well.
Jenn,
There are a couple of stories they tell that still have me laughing out loud. Like the time they went out to dinner to celebrate one of their son's birthdays and had a great big cake, courtesy of the restaurant, and poor grandma at another table who it was really meant for, but they didn't know until they were home when they realized! Ah, maybe it's a guy (with grease under his fingernails) thing.
As to Mn., I went to school out there. Some of the best five years I ever spent was one night in The Cities.
