Best Beaches

It's that time of year again: the New Jersey best beaches poll opens tomorrow. Vote here!

Last year, Wildwood took the top spot. Will it reign king of the beaches again? We'll find out...and make sure you vote!

Also, Amazon's new Kindlecame out yesterday. My book's all high tech and one of the 240,000 books you can download and read on Kindle for $9.99. No reports yet on how it does on sand (though I do know you can just shake the sand out of the printed book.

I'm headed to the Pool at Harrah's tonight for the Atlantic City Restaurant Week kick off party. Yum -- plus, I get to see John & Lisa of John & Lisa are Eating in South Jersey. I was at the Pool on Saturday night, too, after the LL Cool J concert. When I tell folks about it, they say "a pool? Really?" But it's fun, plus a nice warm respite from this cold we're getting in Jersey these days.

I am kind of surprised about Wildwood..decent boardwalk but so many Hotels..looks kind of dumpy to me. Just Sayin!

Careful, Rob. We have a lot of Wildwood fans who read this blog ;-)

So what say you, Wildwood people?

I will agree with Rob that Wildwood has no place atop this list - in my opinion, at least! Each year it feels more and more like Seaside Heights. I find it more enjoyable exploring the more quaint and unknown shore towns - there is so much to discover.

I agree that Wildwood the town is awful. But the beach itself is my favorite in the world. If you can block out the Boardwalk and the fact that every single person who hangs out there seems to chain smoke, it's a beautiful place to enjoy to ocean.

What's with all the Wildwood hating? I love the Wildwoods. One of the nice thing is that it is truly family friendly. As to the hotels, one of the nice things is that you can find a hotel for all tastes or budgets. Rent one of the new Condos or in one of the large hotels if you have money to burn. Rent somewhere inland if you just want a clean bed and shower. I enjoyed Wildwood as a child and still do as an adult.

With all the changes it's hard to separate the beach from the town. IMHO, most of Five Mile Island's beaches (is it the sand?) are still very pleasant, plus they're free.

BTW, what's the criteria for best beach?

Asbury Park FTW.

The poll should be broken into different parts. I would say Wildwood is the most fun!
I think LBI/Avalon/Cape May are the nicest. (I am sure there are other towns that are just as nice) I just don't like Hotels on the shore line...and dumpy hotels at that! Errr (ducking and running) The hotels also blocks the sunset! Saying all that, my family will most likely go to Wildwood when my kids get older.

Not getting into the Wildwood battle. How about Ocean City and Point Pleasant?

We are so defensive about our beaches! I like PP nice boardwalk and not so big. I would of thought Cape May or LBI would win. I am getting my peeps to vote..every vote counts!

My family owns property in Point Pleasant, so I spent a lot of time there as a child. Back then is was nicer and more family friendly than it is now. "Jenks" the night club attracts a lot of unwanted visitors. There have even been a number of crimes along the Ocean Ave strip as of late. It's a shame. My absolute favorite shore town is Stone Harbor - I find it to be a wonderful balance of beauty and entertainment.

Brigantine Beach has some of the nicest, cleanest, most beautiful beaches I've ever been to.
