I Feel Pretty

I'm not feeling great today, so instead of catching up on reading or doing some other relaxing catch up work, I'm window shopping online. My goal? Find the perfect book launch party dress.

I want something summery and fun, but pretty. I don't want a cocktail dress, but something that suggests beach without screaming it (no sail boats printed on a skirt, please).

So far, I've ripped pages out of Lucky and Instyle, checked out the spring stuff at Anthropolie and Urban Outfitters, and scouted out the spring/summer Freepeople collection. I've also consulted with the owners of Six Clothing and Antoinette Garbrielle to see what they have coming in, and to get opinions on what styles I should be looking for. Bluefly has some neat stuff, but I'm wary of buying stuff online without trying it on first. I loved an Anthropologie dress I saw in the catalogue but hated it once I tried it on (extra pouf on the shoulders is not my friend). I tried JCrew, too, but nothing really struck me as a wow dress.

I've spent a lot of time on Nordstrom.com today, so here's a few possibilities:

So what do you think? Love love love any of these? Know of some places I should go? If you're wondering about coloring and fit, I look pretty much like my picture in my profile, though on most days I don't look like I'm advertising toothpaste, and I'm slimmer now (running does a body good).

I like the belted yellow number with the A-line skirt. It's very summery but not too casual. I could totally see you toasting to your book's debut in it. Happy shopping.

I'm usually a big fan of black anything.
But for some reason, the light blue dress, to me, screams "Happy, fun-time, springy, book-selling, flirty, Jen!"

I like the light blue one as well- it should look great on you and make your eyes pop. I like the 4th one as well (white) but it might be a little short. You want people looking at your book more than your legs!

I also like the yellow one with the belt. Or the black one, just because i love black dreses. Those are my two favorites.

Jen, I'd grab the yellow one with the nipped waist! The yellow print is good, too, but it looks more like a cover up. White is too blah, and black says summer evening when you want to say summer days at the shore.

The blue would be my second choice. Very nice, but not as strong a choice for someone in the spotlight. Er, sunlight. ;-)

I love the wrap dress on top, although I'd love it more in a different color. You'll want to look sunny for your book launch :)

I, too, love the yellow dress, assuming you look good in yellow. Not everyone does. I also like the black dress with the higher neck and rusching (sp?) on the side. Happy shopping.

I love the yellow one too! Actually, I like all of them and think they're all appropriate for a book launch party. But the yellow one has that extra special zing!

Personally, I like the black one... number 5. It looks really nice. But then again, that's just my style ;) I'm sure you'll be a knock-out in whatever you wear ;)

I haven't seen you since college, but I can see you rocking the yellow paisley. Very hot.

I love the yellow one. Go for it!
Maybe you can wear the light blue one to the signing in Haddonfield?
